The MetaCard revenue model is based on three pillars: First, organizations benefit directly from the card price generated when the MetaCard is issued. Second, the Sponsorship Layer enables additional revenue through platform branding, in-app advertising, and partner sponsorships. Third, the Engagement Value generates additional revenue from loyalty programs, merchandising, and active community interaction via the integrated #Points system.

Structure Overview

MGD operates the MetaCard digital platform and app in production and, upon request, handles marketing and communications.

The physical card is issued by RS2 FS & VISA or another financial service provider.

MGD provides the app platform and operations. End customers finance the system through usage fees. The organization receives a share of the revenue.

1. Who is the MetaCard intended for?

The MetaCard is aimed at clubs, brands, organizations and communities that want to digitally activate and retain their members, fans or customers in the long term.

A dynamic user ranking evaluates the activity and loyalty of all MetaCard members. The top 25% of the most active users can participate in community or company decisions, thus becoming more deeply integrated into the organization and gaining insights and influence otherwise reserved for the inner circle.

No. The minimum order quantity is determined individually depending on the project size and target group.

Generally, the rollout begins with approximately 7,500 cards, but smaller pilot projects are also possible.

No. The MetaCard can easily be used alongside existing banking partners, as regional banks typically focus on checking accounts and building society savings products. Membership and loyalty cards like the MetaCard fall outside this business area and are generally neither relevant nor integrable for regional banks.

The MetaCard is generally available to those 18 years of age and older. For young people aged 16 and over, there is a digital community version without payment functionality and a physical card, where all information and promotions are visible, in accordance with legal requirements – full use is then possible from their 18th birthday.

Yes. The MetaCard can be seamlessly integrated into existing club or organization apps and is accessed and managed via a dedicated section or button – such as “Membership” or “Membership Card”. If an organization doesn’t have its own app, MGD will create a turnkey app in the club’s design and name and publish it in all relevant app stores.

Yes. Existing partners, restaurants, and sponsors can be directly integrated into the app, creating a dedicated digital partner and sponsorship network. Customers collect additional points when shopping at participating partners, offering attractive added value for both existing partners and new online shops.

The club incurs no capital expenditure costs. The system is financed through user fees from end users, while the club receives ongoing revenue from ticket sales, sponsorships, and digital engagement. The app’s development costs are initially pre-financed by MGD Mediengruppe Deutschland and are only recouped later – for example, through ticket sales, sponsorship revenue, or other program income. In this way, the development is fully refinanced through ongoing operations.

Yes, in principle the system can also be implemented with other credit card manufacturers, such as Mastercard. However, within the existing system, MGD Mediengruppe Deutschland and RS2 are firmly established as the main contractual partners.

The effort required from the club is minimal – typically, only about 3 to 4 working days are needed for coordination, approval, and the kick-off meeting. Afterwards, monthly meetings can be held, if desired, to optimize and coordinate ongoing activities.

Once the map and app design is approved, the technical setup and activation typically takes 8 to 12 weeks. If required, Mediengruppe Deutschland can support the entire launch process with marketing and communications assistance.

The MetaCard meets the highest security and data protection standards. All financial processes are subject to BaFin and ECB regulations and are processed via RS2FS. The system is GDPR-compliant, runs in German data centers, and meets all current security and data protection standards.

Yes. The MetaCard can be used throughout the EU and can also be rolled out in the USA if needed, as the financial processes comply with European and international VISA standards. However, the current prices and conditions apply exclusively to Germany and Austria. For all other countries, individual requirements, regulatory conditions, and costs must be reviewed and negotiated on a project-by-project basis.
